The Dicefell Tournament 3 wielded many new features from previous events thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and amazing staff. This year we had a barbecue station on site, a selfie area (so we could hand out extra prizes!), beautiful gold table runners with our logo to enhance the mood, customized team-name placards displayed on the tables, and an upgraded selection of goods available at our event-store.
As the DFT momentum carries forward we will continue to upgrade our tournament! We already have several surprises ready for next year’s event, including our elite-team option!

The Adventure
After scattering local defenses with a well coordinated, surprise attack. The Cult of the Black Earth now works to take full control of the Pyramid of Lysic. Their mission? To reach and activate the secret subterranean Monolith that slumbers below.
The Church of Pelor, after shaking off the initial surprise, has hastily assembled their best available defense. You.
Now in a desperate race against time, your team must travel to the Pyramid of Lysic and stop the Cult of the Black Earth before they achieve their sinister goal of activating the subterranean Monolith. Every life within a hundred miles, including yours, depends on your success!
Additional pieces of background and lore about the adventure where featured as Volumes in our DFT News Section:

The Characters
The Church of Pelor has assembled a team to save the day. This team will be led by their chosen warrior, the Paladin (Party Leader). The Monk and Cleric are also followers of Pelor and are proud to be on this assignment. The Necromancer though, hailing from the desert wastes, has also been assigned to this team and is perhaps less than thrilled to be surrounded by holy knights and servants of the Sun God…
Each PC is quite versatile and it’s up to you how to play them! Characters are set to LV 3 and you will not level up in the course of your adventure. Class, gear, feats, race, and magic items are all selected ahead of time and can not be changed. Every PC has their prepared spells chosen for them.
Special for DFT3: The Necromancer boasts a healthy spellbook and whoever is playing this outcast will choose their prepared spells from that list at the start of the game. As well, each person playing the Necromancer will have a sealed envelope waiting for them with their portfolio…

DFT3 Statistics
- 94% of teams gathered the Heirloom in the Workcamp, completing the 1st zone.
- 76% of teams reached the Scorpionfolk defended Bridge, completing the 2nd zone. This is where the DFT team usually made it during our test games!
- 53% of teams entered the Garrison with Copperbeard, starting the 3rd zone.
- 29% of teams entered the Pyramid of Lysic, starting the 4th and final zone.
- Of all the teams that reached the Hourglass Building…
- 44% were tempted into exploring it (most team just explored a little)
- only 12% completed this portion of the adventure.
- Only 1 team that reached the attached hamlet decided to go help! Team “Incredibly Polite Canadian Knights” where the only ones to rush forth and successfully save the innocent people of the hamlet. However, several teams did attempt to provide aid while passing; including giving the young boy weapons and healing potions.
- Approximately 1 in 4 Necromancers made use of their ‘Ancient Familiar’ ability to summon and control a Phantom Green Owl familiar; the others seemed not to give a hoot about it.
For details on how progress through the adventure and branching paths affected teams’ scores, see our DFT News post on The DFT3 Adventure Scoring Sheet!
Consistent Trend
Despite popular belief that teams playing on Sunday have an advantage due to the DM’s increased familiarity with the adventure and rerunning it several times… 2 of the 3 top ranking teams actually played on Saturday for the DFT1, 2 and 3! We wonder if the DFT4 will show the same results…
