Tournament Rules
Dicefell 2025 will be using the 2014 5th Edition D&D Rules; in future years we may be adopting the 2024 rule set.
Rules for the games are the rules as written in the 2014 5e books.
For the tournament, some optional rules are used or omitted:
- Flanking: In melee combat, if you and an ally are on adjacent sides of an enemy, or in opposite corners, those characters have Advantage on their Melee attack rolls against that enemy.
- Diagonal Movement: The first diagonal square costs 5 feet, a second direct diagonal square costs 10 feet of movement. To avoid this, only travel one diagonal square at a time.
- Automatic Success: If, during non-initiative, a character would succeed a task with an average roll of ‘10’ on the d20, they automatically succeed. All DC’s will be rolled in a combat encounter/initiative.
- Hero Points/Inspiration: Will not be used
Should there be a disagreement between Player(s) and DM, a Dicefell Tournament Overlord will make a ruling, and the game will carry on with that ruling.
Over the course of the adventure, the DM will secretly award points to the party for completing various objectives. Objectives include defeating monsters, solving puzzles, and completing key mission goals. At the end of the event, the 3 teams with the most points will be awarded prizes!
Rude, disrespectful, and/or violent behavior will not be tolerated at any time. Anyone who chooses to exhibit this behavior will be ejected from the Dicefell Tournament and immediately forfeit all current or future tournament benefits, including but not limited to draws for prizes and rewards for top team prizes.
The Adventure
After scattering local defenses with a well coordinated, surprise attack. The Cult of the Black Earth now works to take full control of the Pyramid of Lysic. Their mission? To reach and activate the secret subterranean Monolith that slumbers below.
The Church of Pelor, after shaking off the initial surprise, has hastily assembled their best available defense. You.
Now in a desperate race against time, your team must travel to the Pyramid of Lysic and stop the Cult of the Black Earth before they achieve their sinister goal of activating the subterranean Monolith. Every life within a hundred miles, including yours, depends on your success!
Additional details on DFT3’s desert adventure will be released in the weeks leading up to the event. Keep an eye on our social media platforms and the DFT News section to catch pieces of lore and background to the adventure which could provide useful insight into encounters and puzzles.
The Characters
The Church of Pelor has assembled a team to save the day. This team will be led by their chosen warrior, the Paladin (Party Leader). The Monk and Cleric are also followers of Pelor and are proud to be on this assignment. The Necromancer though, hailing from the desert wastes, has also been assigned to this team and is perhaps less than thrilled to be surrounded by holy knights and servants of the Sun God…
Each PC is quite versatile and it’s up to you how to play them! Characters are set to LV 3 and you will not level up in the course of your adventure. Class, gear, feats, race, and magic items are all selected ahead of time and can not be changed. Every PC has their prepared spells chosen for them.
Special for DFT3: The Necromancer boasts a healthy spellbook and whoever is playing this outcast will choose their prepared spells from that list at the start of the game. As well, each person playing the Necromancer will have a sealed envelope waiting for them with their portfolio…
Each character sheet has all the physical details empty; we want you to alter the appearance of your character how you see fit. Gender, eye & hair colour, height & weight – all yours to customize!
Note that for DFT3, characters are built using the 2014 5th Edition rules. Physical character sheets will be provided on game day; these character Sheets are available for preview on our Facebook Page

What to Expect
When you arrive at the event, you will be greeted at the door and directed to your table. You will be given a name tag with your name and team name on it. At your table you will find a folder with your character sheet, a raffle ticket, and some additional participation gifts. There may also be a pool of stickers and other items for your team to share as you see fit; all of these you get to take home with you.
Each team is allotted 4 hours to play. At the 2 hour mark, there is a mandatory 15 minute break. During the game, you’ll have opportunities to order food and drink from the DFT Canteen and have it delivered to your table.
For simplicity, GMs will usually refer to players by their class instead of player or character name.
Photographers will move around the tournament hall taking pictures during the event. If you or your team win any prizes, your photograph will be taken as you receive your loot.

Tournament Prizing
Prize packages for DFT3 will be revealed closer to the tournament date.
Gold, silver, and bronze prize packages are provided for the 3 teams with the highest scores. Members of these teams will be able to claim their respective prize packages in Berwick after the event, or make other arrangements to claim their prizes. You can claim your prizes individually, or as a group. All 4 players from the teams get the same assortment of prize items (colours or designs may vary).
Note that your photo will be taken when claiming your prize package.
DFT Raffle
Thanks to our generous sponsors, we have even more prize packages for you to win with the Dicefell Raffle! Several bundles of prizes will be presented, with boxes for you to put your raffle tickets in. Make sure to keep one half of your ticket which has a number on it!
When the tournament is over, we will randomly draw one ticket from each prize packet’s box and announce the winning numbers on Facebook and Instagram. Winners can then reach out to arrange to pick up their prize packages in Berwick, or make other arrangements to claim their prizes.
Note that you need to present your ticket in order to claim your prize, and that your photo will be taken when claiming your prize package.
Each attendee will receive 1 Raffle Ticket with their PC folder. Winners of the BoH draw will get their 3x bonus tickets when they’re welcomed at the door. Additional tickets will be available at the tournament; expect more information on how they will be announced closer to the start date.

DFT Canteen & Pop-up Shop
At the head of the tournament hall will be the Dicefell Canteen with various drinks, hot food items, candy bars, and more – everything you need to stay fueled during the adventure! During the game, you’ll have opportunities to order food and drink from the DFT Canteen and have it delivered to your table.
By the DFT Canteen is the DFT Pop-up Shop, which has loads of different TTRPG merchandise for you to buy; books, dice, jewelry, mats, and more have featured in past years. What treasures will you find at the tournament!
