(Deciphered letter from a corrupt Workcamp guard to a Cult of the Black Earth agent, 3 months prior)
Earth Brother,
The basement continues to be used only for storage, and the room above where She will tunnel in is below the kennels. I have acquired enough of the plant to heavily dose all the dogs, which will stop them from being alert to the tunneling, and keep them from tearing us limb from limb! After my many years working here, I have come to respect the dogs as an effective form of control. Perhaps we should incorporate more dogs in our ranks.
I was told to be ready for the Ghost Moon; here is my report.
Myself and another faithful ‘guard’ will quietly eliminate any sleeping guards we can before the alarm is raised that the Workcamp is breached. I don’t believe we can trust the inmates, so that will be left to the faithful who come with Her to handle. They should be able to hand out a few weapons and a good number of the inmates will attempt to riot.
With the dogs incapacitated, and a few less guards, the other faithful and I will take to the center watch-tower and kill any other guards we can. Commander Longridge is good at his job, however he is well hated by the inmates which should make this easier.
We do not expect the followers of pelor to come here; for She will already have taken the Key and should be well on her way to the Monolith. Word reached us recently that the ‘oldest’ of the faithful would be accompanying her and in charge of covering her retreat? That makes me uncomfortable, but so long as it stays underground things should be fine.
Now the response from the church will bypass our area. The second part of my report is this:
A faithful, although lesser in the ranks, actually showed up here to work after being pinched for theft. He has been given the task of, after escaping the Workcamp, to find and terrorize one of the small desert-dwelling hamlets that dot the landscape closer to the Pyramid. The idea is to wait until the sun is highest in the sky, after the Ghost Moon, and then set the hamlet on fire. Burning the buildings one at a time, and to let a few of the children flee to get help. If the followers of pelor are anywhere near, they will surely go help the innocent and children.
If they don’t show up, the faithful can burn the hamlet down and have a peon-bake. He says there’s another inmate who will go with him. I would feel better if we could spare two of the faithful to accompany them? After, those faithful could go straight to the Pyramid.
Finally, regarding your comment about the Gypsy. All I can say in this. Let us hope he doesn’t show up, for he is a chaos bringer and that bodes poorly for everyone. And if he is in the area, ideally the followers of pelor will pass him by and ignore him and his windy friend!
Only 3 more moons!
