(Last letter from Ranger prior to being captured)
“Guild Leader, my expedition to the South was fruitless. And I mean utterly a waste of time. I’m not sure who provided us the information that trade was strong here, but it is not! And no one I’ve spoken to has any idea why it would be suggested that trade is strong here. No rare natural resources, no port towns or even crossroads. Just farmers and hamlets. Friendly ones to us Halflings, but simple farmers nonetheless.
Just before I head back I’m going to visit what’s supposed to be a trade show of the best available, local items. Another travelling merchant I met at the tavern told me about it. Called it the Wõrd’s Exhibition, an annual tradeshow for craftsman and others. If there is anything worth our guilds interest, I should expect to find it there. But I do not have high hopes, so prepare for me to return empty handed.
I even snuck around a few less-reputable places using my special talent to hide in the darkness. Almost got caught by a very keen Dwarf with surprisingly good hearing! But you know me, I’m lucky and managed to get out of there just in time.
Also, the southern tobacco and other ‘fine’ smokables are quite bland. I don’t think I’ve used my pipe more than a handful of times! Ale isn’t bad, not really my type though. So I’m looking forward to getting back and filling my pipe with some good Halfling leaf! In fact… let’s plan to meet for dinner when I return, I could use a good feast after all this traveling. My pony is utterly exhausted. Poor fella.
That’s it for now,
Ta-ta.
